Health data & privacy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Violet reads health data from Apple Health or Health Connect and keeps it on your phone. This page is the full disclosure: what it reads, why, how long it stays, where it goes, and what you can ask for.

The short version. Everything stays on your device. Violet has no server and sends none of your health data anywhere. The one thing it writes back to Apple Health or Health Connect is the water you log yourself.

What is processed

Why

To show your daily progress, and to chart the selected night's measurements alongside the app's own sleep estimate.

If you turn a reminder on, Violet also works out when to remind you. It does that on your device, from data already there: the water you logged, your step data, your water goal, your reminder settings, and whether your trial or subscription is active.

The data is not used for advertising, profiling, scoring, or sale to third parties. No such processing takes place.

Lawful basis

Health data is special-category personal data under data protection law, so processing it needs a specific condition rather than a general one. That condition here is your explicit consent.

You give that consent through your operating system's own health permission prompt — not by installing the app, and not by reading this page — and you choose which categories it covers. You can withdraw it at any time; see Withdrawing permission below. Violet reads nothing before you grant it and nothing after you revoke it.

Beyond that, there is little for us to justify: the data stays in a database on your device, we hold no copy of it, and we have no means of reaching it.

Your subscription is different data on a different basis. The purchase record exists so we can give you what you paid for — the performance of that contract — not because you consented to it. It is ended by cancelling the subscription rather than by withdrawing a permission.

Where it is kept

How long

Transfers

Your health data is not transferred to any third party, in any country.

If you buy a subscription, the purchase itself is handled by Apple or Google, and the subscription record is processed by RevenueCat acting as our processor. RevenueCat receives the purchase and an anonymous app identifier. It receives none of your health data.

Your rights

Data protection law gives you the right to ask whether your data is processed, to be told what it is used for and whether it is used accordingly, to have it corrected if it is incomplete or wrong, to have it erased, and to object to the processing.

Withdrawing permission

You can withdraw the permission at any time — on iOS via Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Violet, on Android via the Health Connect app's permissions section. Once withdrawn, Violet cannot read new data.

Notifications are a separate permission. iOS asks for it the first time you turn a reminder on. You can turn reminders off in Violet's Settings, or withdraw the permission in iOS Settings, at any time.

Data controller

Children

Violet is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly process their data.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the app links to the updated version. Previous versions are available on request.
